Week five: Opportunity and solutions explorations of solutions
This week we prepare the second deliverable. We gather all the information gathered on the fields we made. We analyse it again, find the main insights and process the information to do the personas and journeymap. This time was very difficult to organize also, but now because of the not availability of the members of the group and when we meet we wasn’t efficient enough to go forward with the solutions. Before we met, I planned the strategy and think about my own interpretation of the data and then on the meetings I exposed my point of view to create the group vision from that and have our own storytelling. I personally think that is better than more than one person do that before, in that case people can follow better the conversation, can contribute more on the meeting and is more involved on the project. I realise that having a criticar vision in a individual level is crucial to have good results and potentiate each others.
Week four: Ideation
We received the feedback from our presentation and we made a meeting to solve the problems we had to achieve the goals for the deliverable. That was very important because we organize each other better and spoke about our feelings and things we think we need to change. For example, we decided to have a leader for each meeting. We made this with the aim of distribute the energy on the members of the group and also we obligate each other to get involved.
After that, we decided to do our focused field research on a place where the proportion of elder is high in comparison of other places. We decided Providencia, because also they have many projects to include them on the community through the municipality activities. In that way we can contrast the community dynamics and motivators of the elderly.
Week three: Map of the project, Opportunities.
This week we gather information from San Bernardo and Estación Central. We chose those places because we had gatekeepers there from our group and also because are rural and urban places respectively. To understand the lifestyle of the elders, the role they have on their community and also how is the dynamic of the community. We noticed that they are not so close to the municipality, but they organize on the neighborhood councils and is a very powerful actor on the community. They talk about administrative things on the neighborhood, but also they organize workshops and activities and in some way they “take the place of the municipality. Also we found that there exist different neighborhood council that sometimes compete.
Then we prepared the deliverable. We ran out of time because it was very difficult to communicate and work together, because not everyone speaks english and also didn’t know how to affront a process where you need to synthesize the information and conceptualize ideas.
Week two: Team working plan, Counterpart meetings, Field Research
Now we are ready to start. “Urban resilience and the aging population: How to incorporate the elders in the design and execution of prevention programs for the effects <disasters>; of
environmental phenomena.” My first impression was – Wooow this is so complex, I can even understand at once what is the message, every time I read it i found something different-. So I started to identify the main concepts and things involved. As a group we made a desk research to contextualize and used the context map tool. We iterate it as we had more information. After the counterpart meeting we could ask questions to clarify the context more to understand what we need to know. So we defined we need to know which are the motivators for the elders, how is their lifestyle. And on the other hand, we how are the community dinamics and wich is the role the elder takes part in that community. This was a really hard week, because nobody had experience on Cualitative field research, so I had to thing on a strategy first and communicate it, but also teach them how to do it to empower them to have a critical vision on how we are going to approach the subchallenge and do the protocols and organice the fieldwork.
Week one: Introduction, methodology
The project is just starting. This week we recieved our subchallenge and the group we are going to work with for this 10 weeks. Also we understood how this is all going to work, in my case is a bit messy because I have clases and sometimes croses with the activities for the project. I’m studying engineering and I’m in the major of Innovation and Design. I’m on the Dilab course and I took the “La Passion” section. I applied to be part of this project and don’t follow the normal course because I have something to proove to myself. I wanted to live the experience of becoming part on a real multidiciplinary project, with EVERYTHING different. Country, experience backgrounds, ages, carreers, motivators, languaje, culture. Can we as a group align ourselves and work to solve an specific problematic? Can we potentiate each other and have the same good results as beeing part of the normal course of dilab which groups are conformed of IDI’s people as me? So, my real expectation is to, after this experience, say to myself if I believe or not on the multidiciplinary work to affront innovation problematics. Not only know it on theory.
We meet as a group to know each other and share our motivators, expectations and also have fun. We ate tacos at my home and we define our group name “Bye disasters” 🙂
